GOVERNOR Chris Ngige of Anambra State has called on authentic members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to ignore the purported election of Mr. Uche Emordi as the state chairman of the PDP, saying the purported election was of no effect. A statement from the governor’s office noted among other things that there was a subsisting court order barring the National PDP or the re-instated Anambra State chapter of the party from conducting any election or meeting until the issue of who is executive of the party in the state was determined.
The statement reads: “The attention of His Excellency, Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige, OON, Governor, Anambra State, has been drawn to the so-called election of a dismissed security to the state government, Mr. Uche Emordi, as the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Anambra state, among other elections. The governor hereby calls on all authentic PDP members to discountenance the entire election because it is an exercise in futility based on the following grounds There is a subsisting High Court order issued by an Ogidi High Court presided over by Justice O. Ernest-Egbuna barring the PDP National or the re-instated Anambra State chapter of the party from holding any election or meeting until the question of who is the exco of the party in the state was determined. Any action that is contrary to that order is a contempt of court and a flagrant abuse of the rule of law”.
“No legal election would take place in the state executive until the court disposes of the suit instituted by some bonafide members of the PDP in the state which will ultimately determine the authentic membership of the state executive. All law-abiding members of the PDP in the state are advised and encouraged to go about their lawful duties and disregard the so-called election of officers or state chairman of the state executive of the PDP. At the appropriate time, the National Executive Committee of the party will determine this issue, when the court processes are concluded”.
