Cleric tackles retired generals over 2007
TOM MOSES
A cleric has
described the clamour for 2007 by retired Generals as a prove that they
squandered the nation’s wealth while in office.
President and general overseer of the
Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI) Evangelist (Dr.) Emmah Gospel
Isong gave the revelation during a press briefing in Calabar, Monday to mark the
8th Anniversary of the church located at Ikot-Eneobong, 8 miles, Calabar.
Isong posited that since politics has
always proven to be capital intensive especially at the presidency level, the
retired military men have simply come out to prove that they looted the nation’s
treasury while in office.
The cleric said that the salaries of the
former military men if used as indicators, cannot sponsor electioneering
campaigns three years to the election period.
"The fact that former Military-Generals
are coming back to power is because they are the ones who looted our treasury.
"What was their salary when they were in
the military? Politics is a game of money, so, their coming back is an
indication of who looted the nation’s treasury," Isong remarked.
In effect, he expressed discontentment
over the flag-off of campaigns by some politicians three years to 2007 when the
next elections are scheduled to hold, saying that the development was capable of
distracting politicians’ attention from fulfilling the terms of their mandates
to their constituencies.
For him, "the federal government should
ban all discussion, conferences, seminars, proposals and campaigns about 2007
elections."
He also spoke on zoning of political
offices in the country.
According to him, zoning was not quite
visible in the nation’s politics rather what looked like zoning was usually the
handiwork of members of a cabal who sat together to select another member that
will protect their interest.
Isong explained that if the cabal was not
comfortable with the disposition of a particular nominee, they will say they
have zoned that particular position to another place.
According to him, if zoning system were to
be real a state like Akwa-Ibom State would have produced a president by now.
However, Isong said that eight days annual National
Conference/Eight anniversary celebration of the church tagged "free indeed" will
be committed to offering prayers to God to deliver and free Nigeria from the
principalities and powers of darkness.
