Court Halts Swearing-in of New Anambra PDP Chairman From Chuks Okocha in Abuja National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday stood down the swearing in of the new Anambra State Chairman, Chief Uchenna Emordi. Emordi was billed to be sworn in this week after his election in Abuja, but the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Venatius Ikem told THISDAY that there was a subsisting court order, which was served on the party stopping the swearing-in. Said Ikem: "We have to obey the court order. They delayed in serving it on us from our legal department. But the election of Emordi as the new chairman stays." Ikem said PDP would work towards vacating the order. A new date has been set aside for the swearing. THISDAY gathered that the NWC was not happy that no member of the party-working organ supervised the election, which took place in Abuja. Emordi's election which took place in Abuja, was boycotted by the former Chairman of the party's Board of Trustee, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, governor of the state, Dr. Chris Ngige, Deputy Governor, Chief Ugochukwu Nwankwo and the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Mike Balonwo. The election, which was supervised, by Senators, John Azuta Mbata, Gbemi Sarki and Clement Kolawole Awoyelu took place at the Nicon Hilton Hotel Abuja, amidst tight security. Accreditation commenced at about 2.17 p.m. with 49 delegates accredited out of 64 in the delegate list.
