Police Recover Arms, Arrest 15 Militiamen From Funmi Peter-Omale in Jos The Plateau State Police Command recovered 75 live ammunitions and arrested 15 suspected members of an ethnic militia. Commissioner of Police in the state Mr Joseph Apapa, who confirmed this to news men in Jos explained that the arrest and seizure were made in some villages in the southern senatorial district of Mikang, Langtang North and South, Quan'an Pan and Shendam local government areas. He however declined to mention the specific areas where the arms and ammunitions were seized. Reliable sources disclosed that most of the arms recovered were gotten in Yelwa Shendam. Apapa disclosed that ten expended ammunition were also recovered saying that the exercise was a continuous one. Since he assumed office, the state administrator, Maj. General Chris Alli (rtd) had called on citizens of the state with illegal arms and ammunition to voluntarily submit such to appropriate authorities for cash rewards. At the expiration of the first deadline, the administrator extended the date with a view of ridding the state of illegal weapons. However, last weekend, Alli ordered a "condone and search" prpgramme following what is generally perceived to be citizens' unchallant attitutude to the "cash for weapons" order. While charging security agents to be civil and matured in carrying out their duties, Alli also urged members of the public to cooperate with security agents to forestall any form of breakdown of law.
