Enugu Pipeline Fire Kills 1, Injures Many From Emmanuel Ugwu in Enugu At least one person has been confirmed dead and others left with various degrees of burns in yet another pipeline fire in Enugu State. This time, the scene of the inferno shifted to Nenwe in Aninri Local Government area where the inhabitants are now living in fear as smoke and scorching heat have made their environment un-comfortable. The fresh pipeline fire is coming barely a month after a similar incident claimed six lives, including a frmer and his three daughters at Ogbeke village Agbani in Nkanu Local Governement. A source at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Enugu, lamented the incessant vandalisation of pipelines saying the corporation has recorded no fewer than nine incidents in the last two months within the state. He said the perpetrators opearate as a syndicate by selecting secluded portion of the pipeline to vandalise. From the account of residents, vandalisation at Nenwe followed the same pattern. According to those who spoke with our correspondent, the vandals had, during the night drilled holes into the pipelines and disappeared after having their fill only for the villagers to wake up and discover fire raging uncontrollably. However, none of the respondents could explain how the fire broke out and what the dead man was doing when he was consumed by the inferno.
