NASSI Appeals Against Ejection
From Amby Uneze in Calabar
National Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), has urged Cross River State government to stop the Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA), and Ministry of Trade and Investment, from ejecting it from its secretariat.
CUDA had in a letter reference number CUDA/ 101/Vol.1/8 of August 23, signed by its Secretary, Edem Ekpenyong Asuquo and addressed to Governor Donald Duke, implored government to reverse the directive from the ministry, before any harm could be meted on innocent citizens.
"We implore you, sir, to investigate this matter and cause this situation to be redressed in favour of the association. We are hardworking and law-abiding citizens and are happy that government has shown interest," the association pleaded, adding that it is also prepared to support and collaborate with government to actualise the industrial programmes of the state.
NASSI described the threat negation of the known attributes and hallmark of the present administration, stressing that it was an undisguised and calculated attempt to hide the truth and sweep the matter under the carpet, as it poses threat to the association's survival.
"It is clearly a high level abuse of official privilege, position and authority. And it is devastating and shocking to see that the directive is a product of collaboration between the ministry and criminal elements who supervised the illegal sale of the property," it said.
Asuquo reminded the governor of a current directive/order from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Investment whose consequence, was to endanger innocent lives and property at 2 Dan Achibong Street, Calabar.
According to Asuquo, on July 27, one Mr Joseph Effiong, accompanied by Major Ekeng (rtd), official of CUDA, entered the association's premises and the duo announced to occupants that they have been directed by government to forcefully eject everyone from the premises.
