Witness Faults PDP Boss on Election Kwara From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer in the last local government election, Mr. Joshua Omokanye, has faulted the state party chairman Alhaji Abubakar Zubair, for submitting a list different from that of the national secretariat to the state electoral commission. Omokanye, a former chairman of Oyun Local Government, was among the eight chairmanship candidates disqualified by the electoral commission, consequent upon which the national secretariat of the party filed an election petition at the tribunal. Cross examined by Mr Babatunde Lawal, counsel to Mr Ahmed Ajimoti, chairman of Oyun Local Council, the PDP witness said the state organ of the party has no right to submit any other list to the electoral body. Relying on Article 21 of the party constitution, he said the party leadership in the state has no right to supplant the list of candidates endorsed by the national secretariat. He denied knowledge of any caucus meeting where the issue of the substitution was discussed. Omokanye prayed the tribunal to uphold his nomination as the recognised candidate of the PDP, and order his assumption of the chairmanship seat of the local government. Another witness, Dr Sulaiman Abdulrahman denied knowledge of any other list before the electoral commission for the purpose of the election. Abdulrahman told the tribunal that he was the validly nominated chairmanship candidate for Ilorin East in the said election. He denied knowing the incumbent Chairman, Alhaji Saad Babatunde Ahmed who was returned by the electoral commission.
