Rival Transport Unions Clash Osun From Hammed Shittu in Osogbo Peace in Modakeke-Ife, Osun State, was yesterday threatened as members of two rival groups of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) engaged in a free-for-all fight. The crisis, which started on Monday, was as a result of tcarrying passengers on the way by one of the factions instead of in approved garages. Sources at the ancient town told our correspondent that the two groups are controlled by factional chairmen, Mr Saliu Isamotu a.k.a Double and Mr Rufus Olasunkanmi a.k.a Commander. Sources added that Isamotu controls Urban Day motor garage while Olasunkanmi controls the Iraye motor park. A visit to the town, revealed that anti-riot mobile policemen have taken over the town to prevent further breakdown of law and order. Residents who spoke with our correspondent, accused the police of providing cover for the warring union members, stressing tits inability to make any arrest. Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, Mr Joshua Olayemi, said the command would put the situation under control, dismissing the allegation.
