BOC Gases Commissions N253m Co2 Plant

BOC Gases Nigeria Plc, yesterday commissioned a new carbon dioxide (Co2) plant valued at N253 million.

The new plant is expected to boost the volume of industrial and medical gases in Nigeria and raise the tempo of the manufacturing sector of the economy.

In his speech at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Afrox, Mr. Rick Hogben said that the commissioning of BOC Gases new carbon dioxide plant is indicative of the confidence they have in Nigeria.

He stated that his organisation had recognised the steps that Nigeria was taking to enhance its democratic processes and business freedom.

Hogben declared that from Nigeria, his organisation had recently made the first tentative steps into a neigbouring country. This, he said, was because they expected the West Coast of Africa to be a strong growth area for their products and services in future. It was also their intention to move across boundaries from the locations in which they have a presence.

According to him, the company was exploring strategic partnerships in Africa and the ability to grow in tandem with their key customers. They were also committed to expanding their existing portfolio of products and services to the maximum.

He explained that in Nigeria and the West Coast of Africa, his organisation will also be concentrating on marketing their welding consumable and gas equipment and looking to increase their sales of pure argon.

The Afrox Managing Director, told the audience that he had come to tell them that the industrial gas and welding business was alive and active in BOC in Nigeria.

He said, "I have come here to tell you that while Safety, Health, the Environment and Quality (SHEQ) is critical, customer service is equally important."

Speaking further he said, that services add value by implementing high standards of corporate governance and offering a strong management support base and a clear operating model in respect of finance, human resources, safety, health and the environment.

The gases industry is potentially hazardous with some products that are toxic or flammable.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Governor of Lagos, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended BOC Gases for investing in carbon dioxide plant. He said that he was proud of what BOC Gases had already achieved, and hoped the new plant will provide employment opportunity for the people. Governor Tinubu stated that as the economy was getting tougher by the day everyone must work harder, think smarter and continually strive for excellent service. He explained that every business venture can only operate successfully in a friendly environment. And that all private sector organisation require and deserve the partnership of government at all levels (federal, state and local).
