The Financial
Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) South-East zone was
abducted on Tuesday.
He was held at
gunpoint and was released almost 24 hours later. His attackers took from him
three items, namely a letter from Anambra State Governor, Chris Ngige, to
President Oulusegun Obasanjo, another letter for PDP National Chairman, Audu
Ogbeh, and a copy of the court injunction stopping the state chairmanship
election that took place on Monday in Abuja. Chris Uba’s camp won the election held in Abuja away
from Anambra where he is supposed to exercise his authority.
That injunction was
to be given to Senator John Mbata, who organised the election.
The abducted
politician, Mr. Emeka Agbapuonwu, had left the Enugu Airport for Abuja aboard a
Sosoliso aircraft at 10.40 a.m. and arrived Abuja at 12.25 p.m.
Agbapuonwu said he
called Mbata to find out where to meet him and was directed to come to the
Congress Hall of Abuja Hilton Hotel.
He said at the
hotel gate, he called Mbata again who then asked him to come up to Room 419. He
said as he approached the room, he saw five hefty men, who attacked him.
Abgapuonwu said he called for help but the attackers muffled him.
Overpowered, he was
taken to Room 177 where he was dispossessed of all he had on him including the
three documents.
The court
injunction he should have delivered to Mbata in Room 419 was also removed. He said he was kept incommunicado and
without food throughout the day and night and was not allowed to go until
11a.m. on Tuesday.
Anytime his
cellular phone rang, his abductors would answer that he was at a meeting and
that the caller should send a text message instead.
