Disturbed by the
spate of killing of police officers in Edo and Delta States, the Deputy
Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the South-South Zones Five and
Six, Mr. Musa Abdulkadir, has ordered the commissioners of police of the two
states to immediately fish out the perpetrators of the act.
Abdulkadir, who was
in Asaba, described the killing of about 13 police officers in the two states
recently as criminal, saying he has directed the two commissioners in charge to
urgently bring the killers to book and take measures to forestall future
occurrences.
He said, “We
have advised them on measures to take. It is a security measure, which cannot
be made public. The policemen had been advised to take necessary steps to
protect themselves and their stations.”
Abdulkadir stated
that he had also been to Edo State and had been briefed by the commissioner on
measures being taking to arrest the persons who recently killed eight officers
of the state police command.
In another
development, the police have intercepted a fake police 504 station wagon fitted
with siren for allegedly carrying 34 bags of weeds suspected to be indian hemp
at the former Niger Bridge Head toll gate.
The Delta State’s
police commissioner who disclosed this, said, “On August 27 at about
9.30pm at the former toll gate, Asaba, a 504 Peugeot station wagon with
registration number PF 3865 KN driven by one Bishop Okregwa in company of one
Kingsley Onos was intercepted by mobile policemen on routine check. “The registration number, which
was a police official number was suspected hence the occupants were told to
come down for search. 34 bags of weeds suspected to be indian hemp were
recovered and a police Inspector identity card with no 3334 bearing the name of
Usman Okpe was found on the driver, Bishop Okregwa. Preliminary investigation
has shown that the ID card and the registration number of the vehicle were
forged.
“As soon as the forgery aspect of the matter is
concluded, the suspects will be handed over the to the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action,” he added.
