The ranks of
members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State have been
divided by the election of Mr. Uche Emordi as the new chairman of the party in
Abuja.
Not pleased with
the election, some irate youths are threatening to cause trouble. Tension and
anxiety hangs over the state secretariat of the party. Members said it was
wrong to elect the state party chairman in Abuja without their knowledge and
participation
Aide and advisers
of Governor Chris Ngige’s are unwilling to speak on the issue.
A party chieftain
who pleaded anonymity said the governor is running a sole administrator style
of governance.
The PDP
Vice-Chairman for Anambra Central, Chief Isaac Nwafor, said there is no way a
convention can be conducted in Abuja without members being adequately informed,
adding that what happened in Abuja is a nullity.
Nwafor added that
the absence of former PDP Board of Trustees chairman, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, from
the meeting indicated that the exercise was a kangaroo arrangement.
He said the
stakeholders should have been informed when the party wanted to conduct an
election for the office of the party chairman.
“That Emordi
election is unacceptable to us. We have held meeting of the PDP executive
members and only Ivy Okoye and three others have been absent despite the fact
that we extend invitation to them. So that election of Emordi is a nullity and
should be discountenanced,” he said.
It was learnt that irate youths in Awka and some parts of
Onitsha are alleged to be hatching a plot to disrupt any meeting chaired by
Emordi. They said for a substantive chairman to be elected, the convention
should be held in Anambra.
