Such patrols were carried out on a daily 12-hourly basis before this call. The Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby, who announced� this to journalists after an emergency executive council meeting said the� action was necessitated� by the� sporadic shootings around the� Marine Base area last Sunday in Port Harcourt. The��� Marine Base is� located one� kilometre away from Brick House, the seat of government. Toby, however, reminded� security agencies� in the state of an earlier directive that they should apprehend those� declared wanted by the government, charging them to carry the battle to their hide outs. � A top government official, however, accused the� State Security Service� (SSS) of failing to provide timely intelligence� information to fight cult group in the state. �As far as I�m concerned, the SSS is not living up to expectation,� he said   Copyright� 2004.
