LAGOS—THE Police in Lagos have smashed a suspected robbery syndicate believed also to be into kidnapping. The arrest which was effected by a team of Operation -Fire- for- Fire from Area G Command was made yesterday at Morris area in Agege Local Government.
Vanguard gathered that the seven-man gang had few days ago kidnaped one Alhaji Mohammed Muzebura and kept him in chains in their hide out in Agege where he was said to have been shot in the thigh after making an attempt to escape. The hoodlums who reportedly placed a N100, 000. 00 ransom on him, threatened to kill him if their demand was not met by 10am yesterday.
However when they were about going for a robbery operation at Moris area , the Alhaji was said to have been dragged into one of the Volkswagen Golf Saloon cars with registration number CF 895 JJJ in which they drove. But luck ran against them as they were intercepted by a team of Operation -Fire -For Fire men from area ‘G’ command who acted on a tip off.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos state Police spokesman, Mr Emmanuel Ighodalo explained that, “Information was received at area ‘G’ command, Ogba yesterday at about 1740 hours that a gang of seven armed men were operating at Morris area, Agege.
"In a swift response, a team of Operation Fire-for-Fire policemen from the station raced to the scene and smashed the seven -man gang who were using two Volkswagen Gulf Saloon cars with registration number CF 895 JJJ and BB 810 AGL respectively”.
He said during the search conducted on them, the following items were recovered from them; one locally made pistol, two Dane guns, two live cartridges, one Samsung handset, assorted charms and twenty fake five hundred naira notes.
Continuing, he said, “one Alhaji Mohammed Muzebura reportedly kidnaped, shot in the thigh and chained by the hoodlums who placed a demand of hundred thousand naira on him was also liberated by the policemen.
"Also found with the murderous gang as prisoners were, one Remigius Uzorugwu, who was brutalized and one Waidi Rashida, a female. The victims were robbed of unspecified amount of cash and valuables during their ordeal of unlawful incarceration”.
He said the suspects had made useful statements which is helping the police in their investigation.
