UMUAHIA — ABIA State governor, Dr. Orji Kalu on Thursday took his deputy, Dr Chima Nwafor to the Abia State House of Assembly to thank the lawmakers for dropping the impeachment process against the deputy governor, Kalu said he would forever remain grateful to the legislators for heeding the appeal of Nigerians from all walks of life who showed concern in the matter. The governor said that although he had every reason to be angry, he decided to show restraint and tolerance in obedience to the teaching of Jesus Christ on forgiveness and in direct response to the exigencies of the time.
His words: “I am sure that many observers would have been baffled that I should adopt such a peaceful stance when actually I should be angry, I must confess that the concern generated by the impeachment exercise across the nation and even beyond was unprecedented such that it got to a point that I began to wonder if all was well.
“Today, I have come with the deputy governor, but this time on a happy note to say thank you for the honour done us by accepting to drop the impeachment. Your action has only portrayed you as genuine patriots, lovers of peace, selfless leaders and dependable partners in our collective effort to make Abia State great. Our people and indeed the entire nation are proud of you. Orji Uzor Kalu and Chima Nwafor are proud of you.
“You may not know the depth of the sacrifice you have made, but unfolding events will soon show you that you have taken a giant step in the resolve to build a strong and progressive Abia State.
“I know that our detractors may not be happy at this development. Then wicked plans have failed because they had planned to hide under the impeachment saga to foment trouble and cause a state of anarchy in our state.” The governor urged the lawmakers to remain focused and transparent in all they do, reminding them that the responsibility on them were enormous.
He also commended President Olusegun Obasanjo, the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh, Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih and other leaders in the party, as well as religious and traditional rulers for their effort in resolving the matter.
