Govt revokes Fayban Airline's licence
From Betrand Nwankwo, Abuja

FOR allegedly contravening air transport regulation, the Aviation Minister, Malam Isa Yuguda has approved the immediate revocation of Air Operating Permit (AOP) of Fayban Air Services.

A statement by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Tommy Oyelade, read that the Ministry decided to ban Fayban Air Services in order to ensure safe air transportation in the country and make operations of the airline conform to international standards.

In the statement, Fayban was alleged to have contravened Air Navigation Regulation (ANR) by operation an aircraft Aviatika AG CAT Micro Light without Certificate of Registration (C of R) and Certificate of Airworthiness (C of A).

According to Oyelade, the airline in addition to contravening the rule, painted and operated the said aircraft with unapproved registration marks.

Meanwhile, a Kano businessman, Alhaji Shehu Wadaji, has advised the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) to desist from criticising the minister over revocation of air licences.

Wadaji, in a statement urged NANS to take time to investigate why the Minister of Aviation is wielding the big stick against airlines rather than rush to criticise him.

Wadaji whose company, Saufax Nigeria Limited specialises in Airport maintenance, praised Yuguda for his reforms in the Aviation industry, adding that air safety in the country should not be compromised.

The Fayban's experience brought to four the number of airlines that have been sanctioned by the ministry since this year for one offence or the other.

On March 12 this year, the minister approved the suspension of the Operation Certificates to Slok and IRS airlines, alleging that they contravened the rules guiding the industry.

Although, the ban placed on IRS has since been lifted, Slok airline is yet to regain its freedom despite plea from many Nigerians.

Also on August 9, 2004, the minister hammered DANA Air for alleged violation of Civil Aviation Air Navigation rule.
