Ogbeh Tasks New Anambra PDP Chairman
From Chuks Okocha in Abuja
The new Anambra State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Uchenna Emordi, was sworn in Abuja yesterday with a charge by the National Chairman of the party, Chief Audu Ogbeh, to reconcile and rebuilt the party in the state to its lost glory.
Ogbeh, who gave the advice after Emordi was sworn in, said "Anambra State is a state with a history of great men and women, like Professor Kenneth Dike, Ben Enweonwu, Nwafor Orizu, Chike Obi and the Great Zik. Your work is to reconcile and bring back the lost glory in the state."
According to Ogbeh, "your antecedents as a banker, accountant and management consultant, puts you in a better position to do the job. This is a difficult assignment, but I hope that it would bring out the best in you."
The PDP chairman advised the new Anambra State chairman to see politics as a very turbulent matter, which requires patience and maturity.
"My candid advice to you is to be firm, fair and just to all. Be a good anchorman. You would be vilified, labeled, but as the chairman of the party's caucus in the state and chairman of the party in the state, your responsibility is onerous, you are not a factional chairman, you are the chairman of the party."
Ogbeh charged the new chairman to ensure that all meetings of the party in the state take place at the party secretariat and that he must ensure that there is no faction in the party.
Also, Ogbeh called on Emordi to ensure that he cooperates with the state Governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, and the state House of Assembly for the advantage of the party to win subsequent elections.
He charged the new chairman to work out draft policies that would be implemented by the state government.
In his acceptance speech, Emordi pledged to do his best to ensure that peace returns to the state and to work towards the reclaim of the lost glory of the state.
He thanked Ogbeh for his interest and eventual salvation of the state, saying "we would go back and ensure peace and we would go back to the old ways for which the state is known for. We would move the party from the abyss and take it to its former enviable height, where it is the toast of all."
Yesterday's swearing in of Emordi was based on the legal advice of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Akin Olujimi, that the court order from Anambra State does not bar the election of the new chairman and his swearing in.
PDP chieftains like Chief Chris Uba, Dr. Okey Udeh, Chief Chukwu Ozichukwu, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, Hon. Chuma Nzeribe, and the Anambra State Secretary, Chief R.O.C. Okpalaoka, were in attendance.
