'Redeem Pledges on Ecumenical Centre' From Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday urged Nigerians who made pledges during the last launching of the National Ecumenical Centre which, he described as a "national monument," to pay up, even as he called on all Nigerians to donate to the completion of the project. "I thank God for giving us the opportunity to complete the process leading to this day. Our God is not a God of abandoned project and I have no doubt that God would see to the completion of the project. "I would write personally to those who made pledges. The contractor is to be trusted as he has mobilised to site without being paid. I want to emphasise that this is a national monument with a religious connotation and purpose. And because it is a national monument, all Nigerians are called upon to build, sustain and maintain it," the President noted. He warned on the dangers of unfulfilled promises to God, saying "if you don't give it to God, Satan would take it from you and that is even worse." Also speaking at the occasion, the National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh, thanked God for what he described as "15 years of embarrassment has come to an end," while noting that the project may not be completed without the fulfillment of pledges made by some people.
