Panel on KadPoly Begins Sitting

Federal Government visitation panel to probe activities at the Kaduna Polytechnic, began sitting yesterday.
A press statement by chairman of the panel, Professor Olu Aina, said individuals and groups within and outside the polytechnic community as well as the general public should submit memoranda on all aspects of the terms of reference of the panel.
He explained that the panel is expected to finish its assignment within a period of four weeks noting that, "the period covered by the work of the panel is 1999 -- 2003."
Some of the terms of reference of the panel include:
Look into the leadership quality of the institution in terms of roles of the governing council, head of the institution and other principal officer.
Look into the financial management of the institution over the recommended period and determine whether it was in compliance with appropriate regulations.
Investigate the application of funds, particularly the special grants and loans meant for specific projects in order to determine the status of such projects and their relevance for further funding.
Examine all the academic programmes, policies and practices as well as the total academic and physical development, performance and direction of the institution and advise as to whether the desired targets have been met and how modifications can be made to achieve maximum academic productivity, excellence and service to the nation.
Study in detail the management structure and performance of the institution including fiscal and administrative personnel and welfare policies and advise on ways to cut costs, reduce waste and continue to develop, if necessary by adaptation rather than expansion, in the face of attenuated resources.
Other members of the panel are Dr (Mrs) Julie Ibiam, Ms W.O. Okoli, Alhaji Ishaq Ibu Umar, Alhaji Azarema Abdulkadir and Alhaji Umar F. Hussaini.
