Mu'azu Seeks Bank Loan for Common Man Bauchi From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi Bauchi State Governor, Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu, has called on the National Assembly to enact laws that would enable the common man to obtain affordable loans from banks, to assist them venture into sustainable small and medium scale businesses. Mu'azu made the call while receiving members of the House of Representatives Committee on Banking and Currency who paid him a courtesy call yesterday at Government House, Bauchi. He expressed concern on the current situation whereby the poor man cannot obtain loan from most of the banks, adding that the development was inimical to poverty reduction. He stressed the need to reduce high interest rates, inflationary trend, as well as increase the usage of credit and debit cards as against the current practice where most people move about with large sums of cash, making them vulnerable to armed robbery. He urged the lawmakers to enlighten the people of their constituencies on the existence of funds for small and medium scale enterprises, saying that this would help cushion the harsh effect of poverty. Mu'azu commended the House members for their concern to the plight of the electorates, and urged them to maintain it. Earlier, Chairman of the committee, Honourable Modibbo Abdulkadir said they were on tour of all branches of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to interact with staff, on its operations and the plan to amend the CBN Act. He said the tour would also provide them the opportunity to meet various stakeholders on the issue of the N25 billion re-capitalisation fund so that the House would come up with a good position.
