Nigeria Army, U.S Navy begin joint training on Monday

THE Nigerian Army and the United States Navy will from Monday begin a 12-day joint training exercise in Calabar, Cross River State.

Already, the seven-man team from the U.S. Navy is to arrive in Nigeria this weekend.

The exercise tagged: Jointed Combined Exchange Training (JCET) will end on September 24.

The U.S. team will train with a company of troops from Amphibious Training School, Nigeria Army, Calabar.

Deputy Director, Defence Information, Group Captain Eniola Akinduro, who confirmed the planned exercise, said it was aimed at:

  • enhancing the on-going military to military relationships between the U.S. and Nigeria; and

  • improving the exchange of information and techniques on a wide array of maritime training events such as boat maintenance, riverine navigation and seamanship.

    Owing to the small focus of the training, it would not involve massive movement of troops.

    Akinduro, added: "the exercise is routine in nature and will not involve any massive movement of troops in Calabar and its environs.
