Balogun Reassures on Police Welfare By Eugene Agha Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Tafa Balogun, has restated his commitment to the welfare of Police officers and men. Towards this end, the police chief has commissioned about 10,000 motorcycles welfare scheme and presentation of cooperative loan cheques to beneficiaries of the scheme in Lagos recently. While presenting the cheques, Balogun noted that enhancement of the welfare of the average policeman would remain paramount in his mind According to him, what the police has been witnessing would take the police welfare to another level in a more rewarding manner. "We are encouraging private sector participation in our welfare programme in view of our limited resources. The response received so far is quite encouraging," he said. Balogun explained that "the motorcycles would be made available to only interested members of the force with particular attention to the junior ranks," he said. Harping on the modality of the scheme, IG stated that repayment plan is flexible and was spread over a period of two years.
