Rivers to Rehabilitate Deported Indigenes From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt Rivers State government has pledged to rehabilitate indigenes of the state recently deported from Cameroon following their inability to renew their Residential Permit. The state Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, who gave the assurance while receiving the returnees at the Government House, Port Harcourt weekend, said government would reintegrate them back into their communities and empower them to engage in them in any human endeavours of their choice. The governor told the returnees mostly from Ogoni axis of the state that there was no place like home, thanking God for preserving their lives till date. He added that government would provide them better conditions to improve themselves. According to the state government, Andoni and Degema Local Government areas have one person each on the list of the returnees, 12 from Khana, and 13 from Tai while Gokhana Local Government area has 45 returnees. The last three are local government areas in Ogoni axis. Odili touched by the poor health conditions of some of the returnees directed that three of them with pressing health problems to be admitted immediately in the hospital for necessary surgical operation.
