V-mobile Okays Expansion Contract,Targets 4m Subscribers Board of Directors of one of the leading GSM operators, Vmobile Nigeria, has approved a new contract with Ericsson to expand the company's network capacity to accommodate four million subscribers by the first quarter of 2005. The organisation in a press statement by its Public Relations Manager, Mr. Emeka Oparah, said the Board okayed the new contract at meeting held last week. Other contracts approved by the Board are the building of a state-o-f-the-art Call Centres by Dimension Data of South Africa. This contract, the company explained, would culminate in the building of a North-South transmission backbone that would run from Benin City to Kano by frontline telecom equipment manufacturer/vendor, Siemens; deployment of 500 radio base stations across the country by Huawei Technologies, a Chinese firm and support services to the radio network throughout the country by Motorola, another leading telecoms equipment manufacturer/vendor. Oparah disclosed that the contracts were expected to significantly boost V-mobile's capacity to connect more subscribers, offer better quality service and give the company a larger share of the country's telecommunications market.
