Anambra Boosts Food Production, Committed To Food Security
Anambra State government said it has procured tractors, fertiliser and grains in an effort to boost food production, just as it has pledged full commitment to the success of the National Special Programme for Food Security (NSPFS).
The State Deputy Governor, Chief Ugochukwu Nwankwo, disclosed this when a four-man presidential monitoring team for food security called on him at the Government House, Awka.
Chief Nwankwo, who represented the state governor, assured that government has not reneged on its promise to assist in the expansion of NSPFS site in Anambra State, reassuring that his administration would continue to support the programme.
He commended the Federal Government for its foresight in the development of agriculture in the country, stressing that NSPFS, instituted by the Federal Government two years ago, will enhance food production and supply to the masses.
He said that the Anambra State government is deeply involved in farming, which according to him, is the surest way of revamping the country's economy.
His words: " As part of government's efforts to further boost and sustain agricultural production, we have procured 10 tractors, several tonnes of fertiliser, agro-chemicals as well as acquired over 400 hectares of farmland in the state."
According to him, the state agricultural expansion project is being addressed under the Anambra State's 'volunteer service scheme', which he said would help regain its past glory in agriculture.
