CRIME NOTES

INFERNO: LAST Thursday, there was a report at Ikorodu police station that some shops at Igbogbo Motor Park were completely gutted by fire. The value of property destroyed in the incident is yet to be estimated.

AUTO CRASH: SIMILARLY, at about 0820 hours on Tuesday, there was a report at Bariga police station that a M/Benz 911 with registration. No. XA 166 SMK lost control and collided with one Fedeco Volkswagen bus with registration. No. SF 960 KRD along Fimbars College Akoka. This resulted in the death of one Sulaiman of no fixed address.

FATAL AUTO CRASH: ALSO, on same date, there was a report at Trinity Police Station, Apapa that a Honda Accord car with Reg. No. EF 526 collided with the pillar of an over-head bridge along Kirikiri/Oshodi expressway. Three occupants of the car died on the spot while others sustained injuries. They are presently responding to treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

CASULTY: ON September 4, 2004, there was a report at Idimu station that one Ahmed Musa "M" was escorting cows from the Agege Abattoir, along LASU road, Igando, one Ismaila Alfa "M" flashed them with touch light but thinking that it was robbery attempt, shot into the air which severed high tension cables and killed three cows in the process. During search, one locally made gun, one shot double barrel gun, seven live cartridges, one 93mm ammunitions four expanded empty shells of 99m ammunition including assorted charms were recovered. The case is under investigation.

TRAGEDY: ON September 4, 2004, at about 0500hrs there was a report at Shomolu Police station that one Ojo Olukotun "M" residing at Larex Hotel situated at No 37 Shipeolu street, Shomolu was found dead while sleeping with member of his family.

BANDITS: AT about 2100hrs during the week, information was received at Satellite Police station that some robbers were operating at Maza Maza, Mile 2 bridge. In a swift response, a team of Operation-Fire - For - Fire police men raced to the scene and arrested Messrs Okwudili Ibeamawaka 'M' and Ifeanyi 'M' while dispossessing people of their belongings. One unidentified member of the gang was however lynched by angry mob before police could rescue him. The suspects have made useful statement, which are helping the police to track down other members of the gang.

LANDLORD: PENULTIMATE Tuesday, there was a report at Ejigbo police station that one Ayodele Okunowo "M" of No 68 Gharhe street Ejigbo allegedly set his house ablaze in a bid to burn a tenant's property. No life was lost but the value of property destroyed is yet to be estimated. The case is being investigated.

RIVERS

FUEL: SIX filling stations have been shut down in Port Harcourt, over their involvement in sharp practices which included adjustment of meters to deliver less quality of petroleum products against the prices charged.

OSUN

STUDENTS' PROTEST: STUDENTS of the Obafemi Awolowo, Ile-Ife, penultimate Wednesday continued their protest over increase in tuition fees, resulting in a clash with the police.

The crisis peaked last Tuesday when the protesting students locked the gates of the school against anti riot policemen that was called in by the institution's authorities to maintain law and order.

ABUJA

AWARD: THE Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun was on Tuesday crowned with the most prestigious "Super Cop" award of the year. The Award presented to the IG by Alhaji Audu Abubakar who represented General Ibrahim Babangida was sponsored by producers of "Security Watch" aired weekly on African Independent Television (AIT).

KWARA

CULTISTS: POLICE in the state have arrested no fewer than 200 students suspected to be member of secret cult group terrorising the state Polytechnic. The state Police commissioner, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar confirmed the arrest to Journalists during the week. Arms and ammunitions were recovered from them.

DELTA

MANSLAUGHTER: DETECTIVES are investigating the death of a middle-aged man who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Umueze, quarters of Asaba. The state Police commissioner, Mr. Charles Akaya told The Guardian that detectives are already trailing the gang, while the victim corpse has been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary for autopsy.

ENUGU

ROBBERY: A young man who was impersonating as an under graduate of Enugu State university has been arrested for armed robbery. He was caught shortly after a robbery operation in the city. A fake identity card of the institution marked 2002/178777 was found with him.

He further confessed to the police that he belongs to member of notorious cult group that also engage in robbery.

KANO

POLICE: THE state police command had ordered the deployment of more Mobile Police men to check robbery activities along the road. The new measure followed complaints by night travellers who always fell victim of robbery attacks on high ways.

BAUCHI

BANDITS: THE state police command have shot dead the leader of a notorious armed robber gang terrorising travellers in Bauchi and other neighbouring states. By this feat, the command has vow to flash out armed bandits from the state by all means.

BORNO STATE

BANDITS: THE state police command have arrested 32 armed robbery suspects in 10 different encounters within a period of two months.
