The two factions are the ones headed by former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande and the former AD Senate Leader, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa. The chairman of the National Convention Committee (NCC) Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Hassan in a statement in Abuja yesterday said that in view of the intractable factionalisation that resulted from the last conventions and in consideration of the recommendation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) "we have come to the conclusion that a new national convention of unity and consolidation is inevitable". Alhaji Hassan said "after due consultation with all elected party leaders in the states, elders and stakeholders, the NCC has been working and planning towards staging a fresh convention at a date and venue that will be announced later". The statement further directed all members, groups and factional leaders of the party that have sought legal redress in connection with the December 16, 2003 separate conventions in any court of law in the country to withdraw such suits immediately.
