Obaje tasks Igbinedion on development
THE President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Prof. Yusuf Obaje, at the weekend extolled the virtues of Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion.
He also enjoined him to cooperate with his son, Lucky (the Edo State governor) to help develop the state more.
The call was made at the Central Baptist Church, Benin, venue of the thanksgiving to wind up the month long celebrations of Chief Igbinedion's 70th birthday.
Obaje who maintained that achieving the age of 70 was a grace of God, urged Igbinedion to replicate what he had done for his family, to the people of Edo State.
"I wan to plead with you to do whatever you can do to make your son to develop the state, support your son," Obaje said.
He reminded both father and son that they had only three years left to do this.
"Do what you have done in your family for the people of Edo State, and let the people say 'yes' to the governor that the state you presided over, though difficult, is better."
To the governor, Obaje said: "You know the state more than I do. So, go the extra mile to leave something behind."
Obaje said true celebration of God's grace included the rendering of selfless service to humanity which he stated translated to preparation toward the hour of judgment.
In the sermon titled: "Celebrating God's grace at 70", Obaje who headed the array of clerics who officiated at the service remarked that God's judgment was not subject to any constitutional amendment. He said further that the reward for true celebration of God's graces was the joy of God's presence in one's life.
"Those who are not at peace with God are those who acquire and acquire."
Obaje listed Chief Igbinedion's achievements as including pioneering the first indigenous motor Assembly plant in Nigeria and Okada Airline.
The church service was attended by Governors Peter Odili (Rivers), James Ibori (Delta), Donald Duke (Cross River) Achike Udenwa (Imo) and two deputy-governors, Femi Pedro (Lagos) and Goodluck Jonathan (Bayelsa).
Also present were former Chief of General Staff (CGS) in Abacha's regime, Admiral Mike Akhigbe (rtd), former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi and the wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu.
The Ataojo of Osogbo, Olowo of Owo and the Owa of Idanre, also graced the occasion along with the ambassadors of Hungary and Slovakia.
Thanking guests, Governor Igbinedion prayed that God should honour each of them as they have honoured his father.
