ABEOKUTA — GOVERNOR Victor Attah of Akwa Ibom State and his wife, Lady Alison Attah were weekend installed the Fiwagboye and Erelu Fiwagboye of Egbaland by Oba Oyebade Lipede, the Alake of Egbaland.
The Alake on the occasion hailed the virtues of the Governor and commended him for his tenacious struggle for resource control.
Speaking through one of his High Chiefs, the monarch said his decision to bestow the chieftaincy title on the Governor and his wife was informed by the way the Governor has proved to be a completely detribalised Nigerian by building bridges of friendship and goodwill across the Rivers Niger and Benue, maintaining that “he who sows goodwill will only reap goodwill and he who builds bridges will cross bridges.”
In his response, the new Fiwagboye of Egbaland, Chief Victor Attah, who was installed on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States said that it is indeed possible for people to live together in peace and unity despite their diverse races and religion. According to him, “the hitherto relationship between Akwa Ibom and Ogun States and indeed the rest of the West has already been great, so there’s no point going over all that, merely to say that today is popularly called in all parts of the world as 911.
“911 has memory that are not so pleasant, but today we are celebrating unity, today we are celebrating peace, today we are celebrating harmony, today we are celebrating brotherhood and we are demonstrating to the world that it is indeed possible for brothers, however diverse, to live together in harmony and peace to make a better world for all of us.”
The Ekpe, Ekpo and other masquerades, dancers and groups from Akwa Ibom and Ogun states added colour to the installation ceremony attended by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Uffot Ekaette, who represented the President and his wife, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Alhaja Salimat Badru who represented Governor Gbenga Daniel, representative of Governor Peter Odili of Rivers State, Senators, members of the House of Representatives and traditional rulers from Akwa Ibom State.
