PDP chieftain seeks dialogue  over power shift in 2007 elections

    TIMOTHY AJIBOYE, Lokoja

AS campaign for the 2007 general elections gather momentum in Kogi State, chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Central Senatorial district have called for dialogue, understanding and co-operation on the issue of power shift.

Some sections have been agitating power shift from Eastern senatorial district (Igala speaking area) to either the central or western senatorial districts, which are the Ebira and the Yoruba speaking area respectively.

Since the creation of Kogi-State 13 years ago, Igala speaking area in the eastern senatorial district has been ruling the state.

This development, according to some agitators is not healthy for the continued existence of the three senatorial districts.

However, Dr. Farouk Abdulazeez, leading the people of central senatorial district on a solidarity visit to Governor Ibrahim Idris, said that the position of the people of the district on power shift should be achieved through dialogue and co-operation of all stake holders.

Dr. Abdulazeez noted that all stakeholders should sit down to resolve the issue to ensure that no senatorial district is cheated.

Meanwhile, Abdulazeez has urged the state governor to impress if upon the top brass of his administration that his policy rest squarely on the principle of equity, fairness and justice.

The party elders stressed the need for the principle of fairness in the civil service appointments and postings.

This, he said, will minimise the usual complaint that government is favouring a particular senatorial district in the posting of civil servants to choice areas.
