…score selves low The Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) has blamed self over the inability of its members to develop local software which would be acceptable globally. Speaking at the eighth edition of Nigerian Software Conference and Exhibition in Lagos last week, ISPON president, Mr. Chijioke Simeon Agu, said that not so much has been achieved in the local software development. He said it is high time local developers came together to produce world-class software like those being produced in India. His words: “We have not been doing what is expected of us. We have not made the impact expected of us. I believe not so much has been achieved in the industry. We just want to be like India overnight but we do not want to work assiduously the way Indian software practitioners did.” He regretted that the country’s software practitioners have not been speaking with one voice, adding that “we would continue to revolve round one square if we continue like this.” The ISPON president urged the federal government to support the local developers morally and financially as its support could see ISPON through. “We call on government to put us where we belong.
