2007: Pro Atiku group reiterates resolve, commissions German office

The Coalition for Democracy (C4D), a campaign group championing the presidential aspiration of vice president Atiku Abubakar has reechoed its determination to leave nothing to chance in the pursuit of its goal even as it increases its global reach with commissioning of its German office.
The North Central chapter coordinator of the group, Mr. Mary Anibe reechoed the coalition’s resolve over the weekend during the inaugural meeting of the chapter in Abuja assuring that the North central zone is fully strategised and positioned for the triumph of Atiku Abubakar in the 2007 presidential poll.
She said that the fact that the North central was the home base of another speculated presidential aspirant does not in anyway affect the “tremendous” popularity of vice president Atiku Abubakar, made evident by the overwhelming support the group enjoys in the area.
According to her, the Coalition for Democracy is the premier campaign group in the entire North central with fully established branches in all the parts of the states within the zone.
And in an eight point communiqué issued at the end of the inaugural meeting which was also attended by its key national officers led by National coordinator/chairman, Chief Elvil Agukwe and secretary general, Alhaji Ali Abacha, the group described itself the child of necessity born in 2003 with the “sole motive, aim and objective of sensitizing all Nigerians on the need to ensure the realization of the transition programme by ensuring that a true core civilian politician takes over the leadership of the country in 2007.”
It also resolved that only justice, fair play and equity can sustain our democratic experiment and that it is up to Nigerian civilian politicians to bury their differences and fight for a common destiny if they want to avoid a jinxed situation whereby only the military can rule the country in or out of uniform.
It is also the belief of the group that the Obasanjo administration “is doing well in trying to reposition and refocus the country politically and economically,” promising to continue to “drum up support for the government’s reform agenda.”
That having surveyed the political landscape of Nigeria, the group said that it had found out that it is only “that politician with comparative advantage over others” in terms of focus, coverage reliability, formidable political structure, unquestionable loyalty to the course of leadership and followership that should merit its support.
Based on the aforementioned virtues, the group resolved that “the politician that meets our desire and hope for the political emancipation of Nigeria’s democracy come 2007 is the vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Turaki Adamawa.”
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Coalition for Democracy has inaugurated another European chapter in Germany to bring to three the number of chapters so far inaugurated in Europe.
A press statement signed by the group’s National Secretary and National Organizing Secretary, Alhaji Ali Abacha and T. K. Kamoru Deen respectively, disclosed that the inauguration was performed by the chairman/national coordinator, Chief Elvis Agukwe on 24th August, 2004.
