The National Convention Committee of the Alliance for Democracy, AD has dissolved all the National Executive Committee members of the two factions, headed by Chief Bisi Akande and Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa.
In a communiqué issued at the weekend in Lagos, the NCC resolved that in view of intractable fractionalization that resulted from the last conventions, which was held simultaneously in Abuja and Lagos, there is need for a fresh Convention.
The Convention, tagged National Convention of Unity and Consolidation, is said to be in accordance and recommendation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The communiqué signed by NCC Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Hassan, said after due consultation with all elected party leaders in the states, elders and stakeholders, the committee has been working and planning a fresh convention to be announced at a later date.
The committee also urged all members, groups and factional leaders of the party that have sought legal redress in connection with the December 2003 conventions in any court of law to withdraw such actions.
It appeals to all members of the party to continue to be loyal and steadfast toward building a strong and united party.
Meanwhile, the AD-USA has lent its voice to the new convention being proposed by the party.
In a statement issued at the weekend AD-USA said it believed that the unity convention would bring the two factions together and give individual members the opportunity to contest afresh for any post.
“This AD-USA hopes would bring about peace and harmony within the rank and strengthens and positions the party for the real challenges in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“To this end, AD-USA supports that the proposed convention be properly called with invitation to all the stakeholders.”
