...In Kano Jigawa roads to gulp N170m As part of efforts to enhance rural communication, the Jigawa government has awarded a N172 million contract for the construction of roads in Yankashi local government area. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the multi-million-naira project will cover 20 kilometres and will link the state with Niger Republic. The state Commissioner for Engineering and Infrastructure, Alhaji Aminu Yaleman, said the contract was awarded to an indigenous firm, Abdul ventures. He said that 30 per cent mobilisation fee had been paid to the contractor to ensure the smooth execution of the project, adding that it was expected to be completed within six months. He explained that Jigawa government had in the last five years spent N14 billion on the construction of 670 kilometres of roads. Yaleman said arrangements were on for the construction of additional 250 kilometres of roads before 2007. The commissioner reiterated government’s commitment towards the provision of infrastructure, especially of roads. MORE.....
