Ahead planned invasion: Police take over ANPP Secretariat

TROUBLE may not be over in the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) as armed policemen have been positioned in strategic places at its headquarters in Abuja ahead of speculated invasion by a group led by party leader from the Middle Belt.

Daily Champion’s visit to the secretariat revealed uneasy calm and the heavy presence of mobile policemen.

It was gathered that the policemen were stationed there ahead of an alleged planned invasion of the secretariat by a group of party faithful led by the Middle Belt chieftain.

The latter group, it was learnt, would "storm the secretariat tomorrow to take over from Etiebet."

It would be recalled that the said group had on September 9, 2004 announced the suspension of ANPP National Chairman, Chief Donald Etiebet and the installation of Lt. Gen. Jerry Useni (rtd) as the "acting Chairman of the party."

Lending credence to the suspension of Etiebet by the group, Senator Yari Ghandi had described Etiebet as a "dictator, we don’t want a dictator in our party."

Earlier, the Etiebet group had suspended Governor Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State from the party for alleged anti-party activities.

Bafarawa’s suspension which was lifted the next day by the national caucus followed a petition by the National Deputy Welfare Officer of the party, Alhaji Mohammed Murtala.
