Triumph Publishing Company Kano, Alhaji Mahmud Adnan Audi, when he received
the management of the board, led by it executive secretary, in his office
last week.

haphazardly but the present administration gave it more priority in line
with its drive to use the Shari'a legal system to sanitize the society.
The managing director however, lamented that most western
and "Nigerian" films are not for our consumption because they portray
indiscipline and immorality and at times, they are provocative, citing the
example of a "Nigerian" film that openly insulted the late General Sani
Abacha.
He then advised the board to carry out its duties by
ensuring sanity in all the products that passed through it, pointing out
that their services are essential since they involve instilling good
attitude into the society, an effort which he said attracts big reward from
the Almighty Allah.
He therefore, assured of his campanys willingness to
support the board through publications especially on relevant materials from
the board that may help in enlightening the society.
Earlier, the executive secretary of the board, Alhaji
Abdulkadir Ahmad Kurawa, said they were in the company to congratulate the
new MD and also condole, the company over the death of its staff, Alhaji
Danjuma Baffa.
Alhaji Ahmad Kurawa pointed out that the board which was
founded in 2001 by the Kwankwaso administration, was a regulatory body that
censors and certifies films as well as viewing centres.
Alhaji Kurawa added that his board has also the
responsibilities of overseeing bill boards. Publication of books, and the
influx of films to Kano state because of the state market forces and its
consumership of such products among other things.
He then thanked the present administration for relocating
the board to its permanent site and providing it with professional staff as
well as including it in the state budget.
The executive secretary however, touched on the problems
the board is facing especially lack of cooperation from producers,
publishers and the society at large.
He then announced plans by the board have reached a
advanced stage with regards to it's first Kano state films award which will
come up soon.
