Kano state deputy governor, Engr. Magaji Abdullahi has
expressed appreciation to the Rotary Club for its enormous achievements
especially interms of humanitarian services to various communities in the
state.
Engr. Abdullahi further said: "The idea of Rotary club is
service to humanity and there is no better thing to do than to serve the
humanity, so I congratulate all members of the Rotary Club, Kano, and Bompai
for its humanitarian services to our community in the state,
The deputy governor made the appreciation that at the
installation ceremony of the centennial president Rotarian (Chief), Shadrock
O. Ogunbe, as the 45th club president held at Royal Tropicana Hotel last
Saturday.
He then wished to new president whom he described as his
neighbour, a very successful tenure in office and congratulated the outgoing
president for a job well-done.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Anthony O, Sanni,
said the club has a membership of over 1,2 million in 166 countries while
the club in Kano was born in 1961 and is one of the 31,6000 clubs that made
up the Rotary Club international that produced three district governors and
one president of the world body in person of J.B. Majiyagbe.
He explained that they have executed projects such as
building clinics, painting of Zebra crossing and providing the Nigerian
police with traffic stands among others.
Contributing, the new president, Chief S.. Ogunbe, stated
that they planned to expend the sum of N250,000 on literacy and education
and N1,400,000 on micro credit project.
Other community-focused services the club wished to carry
out include the provision of water management and boreholes that will gulf
N800,000 while the sum of N5,800,000 has been earmarked for the purchase of
280 wheel chairs.
Highlights of the events include presentation of paul
Harris fellowship honorary award to the House of Representatives member
representation Fagge constituency in Kano, Alhaji Danlami Hamza, and chief
A.O. Sanni respectively.
Personalities at the occasion include House of Representatives members
from Kazaure constituency in Jigawa state, Alhaji Bashir Adamu, and an ANPP
stalwart in Fagge area, Alhaji Ammani Inuwa.
