TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER, 14, 2004           Onitsha-Owerri highway ready in 12 months � Minister The Minister of works, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, says the rehabilitation of the Benin-Warri road and the Onitsha-Owerri expressway will be completed within a year. �Both roads will be completed in one year,�� he told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos at the weekend. Ogunlewe, who was honoured with a Gold Merit Award for his achievements as minister at the closing ceremony of the Press Week of NAN Lagos Chapel of NUJ, said N6 billion had already been spent on the Onitsha-Owerri highway. Asked whether the project had been abandoned, he said: �We are waiting for the end of the rainy season.�� The minister said about N1 billion had been released so far for the rehabilitation of the Benin-Warri highway. The highway project was begun in 1990 when Daewoo Corporation was awarded an 83.6-million-dollar contract for the 95-km dual carriageway.
