Robbers strip policemen of uniforms, injure 2

Following the resurgence of armed robbery in Zamfara state,a gang of armed robbers last week stripped two police men of their uniforms and wounded two others.

The incident which occurred in two separate operations along Maru-Talata Mafara-Gengebe road also left many people seriously injured.

The two wounded policemen, constables Ibrahim Bala and Yusuf Adamu are now currently receiving treatment at the federal medical centres, Gusau.

Following the resurgence of armed robbery in the state, residents of Gusau and environs are now living in fear as no fewer than five cases of armed banditry were recorded within the week.

The state commissioner of police, Alhaji Ibrahim Machi told newsmen in Gusau on Thursday that his men were doing all they could to flush criminals out of the state.

Machi described Zamfara as the most peaceful with low level of crime adding that most of the robbery cases were not reported to the police.

Police do not hear of most of the robbery cases, he said, adding if no case is reported to us it means there is no case, he added.

We are doing our best to track down the culprits, he said, adding: we have about 11 police check points from Gusau to Tsafe.

Meanwhile, the state police command has arrested two notorious armed robbers who have been terrorising the people of the state.

Parading the suspects, Machi said the two robbers who came from Kaduna were arrested on Wednesday in Gusau, after snatching N550,000 from their victim.

The two suspects, Mohammed Fatai and John Agwaye were intercepted in their car with registration number, Kaduna: BE 185 DKA near the ANPP state secretariat.

Among items recovered from them included Indian hemp, bunch of charms, a master-key and an iron used for burglary.
