Customs chief warns smugglers
HARD times await smugglers in Kogi, Kwara and Niger states as the new Area Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Tingir Gwadue, has told them to prepare for war.
On an inspection tour of Ilorin unit of the service yesterday, Gwadue assured that his men and officers would curb the excesses of smugglers in the three states.
Gwadue told The Guardian that "part of the problems which led to reorganisation in the Customs was that we were not performing to expectation."
He said that the area was ready to do everything within its power to stop the activities of smugglers. "Therefore, help me tell the smugglers that they should prepare for war," he said.
Until his recent posting, Gwadue served at the Western Marine Command, Lagos. He took over from Mohamed Aliyu Bappa.
The Custom chief charged the officers and men on the need to accept wherever they are posted or duty assigned to them because such action would enhance their productivity and that of the service.
