The middle-aged man, Dr. Morondiya Joenis, was arrested by Oyo State Police Command, which also has in its custody one of its officers for duping a businessman of N.8 million.
The disclosure was made yesterday by the Oyo State Police Chief, Mr. Moses Anegbode at the Eleyele headquarters of the command, Ibadan.
The police boss while parading Joenis before journalists said the man was arrested following a report that he allegedly extorted money from unsuspecting victims as examination fees.
Anegbode stressed that upon the report, detectives from the command swing into action and subsequently arrested the man.
According to Anegbode, during police interrogation, it was discovered that the suspect had also established the same university in Lagos and Ile-Ife.
"Investigations by my men revealed that the illegal university campus in Oyo State was located at Monatan area of Ibadan while the suspect was charging between N40,000 and N200,000 as fee payable per each student seeking admission into the university," he said.
He also said that a lady, Bunmi Oguntelu, was arrested with Joenis.
However, the suspect in a chat with journalists after the police parade, denied operating an illegal university but a centre for professional and distant learning.
Joenis stated that he had just secured an appointment with Adamsmith University as a national co-ordinator, adding that he did not collect money for admission into the university from any student.
On the arrest of the police constable, Anegbode said the officer was arrested after allegedly collecting the sum of N800,000 from one Yakubu Ganiyu and Kehinde Lawal under the pretence of securing American visas for them.
The stated that the police constable during interrogation confirmed that he collected the money with intention of securing the visa for them.
