WARRI — MEN of the Joint Task Force (JTF), otherwise known as Operation Restore Hope, last weekend, in Warri  swooped on a gang of armed robbers in their hideout after a robbery operation, shot one dead and arrested a notorious kingpin  in the metropolis, said to have killed a Police Corporal, September 11 at Adjenughun Street, Ekpan, near Warri and escaped  with his AK 47 rifle.

The cop killer tried to bribe his way out by offering the Joint Task Force men a bribe of N500,000 but they turned it down and  arrested him.

Spokesman of the military Task Force, Major S.A. Ahmed confirmed the raid and killing of one of the gangsters.
He said that “On September 11, 2004, two armed robbers were arrested at a checkpoint along 1st Marine gate, armed with a  locally made gun and three cartridges. Similarly on September 12, another gang whose hideout is at Odien street, off  Macdemond road, Warri, were arrested based on a tip-off. Earlier, the men of the JTF had been on their trail for sometime  because of their criminal activities.

“The gang was meeting in their hideout after a robbery operation the previous night when men of the JTF swooped on them. In a  bid to escape, one of the robbers was shot and killed while two were arrested.

“Other members of the gang who are at large include Joseph, Sunny, Dede, David Adams (aka Maikundi or Usman). The ring  leader of the gang is Efe Mena whose abode is their hideout. Items recovered from the gang are two locally made guns with six  cartridges and a red colour Mercedes Benz car 190 with registration number, Bayelsa AG 432 KMK,” he said.
