The Federal Character
Commission (FCC),
has queried the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited Company (NLNG), over alleged lopsidedness in employment of staff, which goes against the federal character principle.
A source at the FCC who spoke to Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, said that the commission issued the query following allegations of gross violation of the Federal Character Principle by the company.
The management of the NLNG is said to have disregarded the recommendations of the Selection Team for Fresh Graduates Recruitment (STFGR), set up on September 24, 2004.
The selection team was set up to test and interview selected qualified fresh grad-uates to be employed by the NLNG and to ensure geogr-aphical spread of the employment exercise in line with the Federal Character provision.
The NLNG employment which is supposed to spread over the whole geographical zones in a reasonable equ-ation and balance was allegedly altered by the manag-ement of the company.
In the FCT for instance, while the selection team reco-mmended that one fresh graduate be employed, none was eventually taken while the North-Central was given only seven slots out of the 15 placement approved by the selection team.
Similarly, slot for the North-East was whittled down to only four as against 12 recommended by the selection team. Also, North West which has 12 slots was provided with two.
But in what appears to be a clear departure, the South-South, South-West and South-East were allegedly given additional slots.
In the South-East where the selection team recom-mended the employment of 11 fresh graduates, the mana-gement of LNG employed a total of 18 persons, making an addition of seven more people.
Also, slots for the South-West jumped from the recom-mended 14 to 19 while the South-South got 17 addit-ional slots against the 15 recommended.
