'Indiscipline, Bane of Economic Growth' From Josephine Lohor in Abuja A report of the concluded National Seminar on Diversification of the Nigerian Economy has identified fundamental problems like fiscal indiscipline at all levels of government, fraud and corruption as being responsible for the slow growth in Nigeria's economy and its diversification. The report which was submitted yesterday to Vice President Atiku Abubakar at the State House by Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Hamman Adama Tukur in company of all Federal Commissioners of the Commission, also noted that dishonesty and lack of transparency have been contributing to the negative trend. Tukur, who said that the report was as a result of various sessions held with the World Bank, Nigeria Export Promotion Council amongst others, noted that with Nigeria's abundance of resources, the problem of processing and utilising available local raw materials that was a critical factor in the sustainance of industrial growth remained a big challenge. Vice President Atiku Abubakar, while receiving the report, said "gone were the days when reports and recommendations of seminars and workshops on national issues are made without implementation, adding that "this administration will see to the implementation and sustenance of the reforms indicated in the reports."
