ETF Not for Private Schools - Secretary Secretary From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Executive Secretary of the Education Tax Fund (ETF), Alhaji Musptapha Jaji, has declared that the tax fund was not established to grant aid to any private schools. Jaji spoke to newsmen after a courtesy call on Kwara State Governor, Bukola Saraki, adding that the decree establishing the ETF did not give it room to fund private institutions. Earlier in an audience with Saraki, the ETF scribe described the fund as a partner in progress in the development of the educational sector. According to him, ETF has disbursed N1.3 billion allocations to institutions in the state since 1999. "As at today, there is an outstanding N387 million balance to be collected and I want to call on benefiting institutions to go to the CBN to pick their cheques". Jaji said he was in the state on inspection of projects of the fund in two higher institutions, University of Ilorin and the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS). In his speech, Saraki said his administration has put a lot of emphasis on education with the aim of capacity building, adding that investment on education is now in training and retraining of teachers instead of the previous focus on buildings.
