Govt to Check Flood in Ajegunle, Others lagos By Akpan Unyime Lagos State government is set to commence work on Onile Wura Channel at Ajegunle, as part of its effort to curb flood in the state, following project approval by Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu after his tour of project sites. This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Environment, Mr Tunji Bello, at a press briefing on efforts so far made by the state in combating flood. According to him, the state government is aware of its responsibility and commitment in ensuring that the citizenry are aware of the plans and programmes of the government, as well as efforts being made on future programmes. Other areas which will soon be receiving government's attention are the Babs Animashaun drainage channel in Surulere, Orile axis; Kobiti channel at Mushin; Ladipo channel at Mushin and the extension of work at Aboru, in old Alimosho Local Government. Dredging and construction work are also expected to begin at Itinrin Canal, collecters serving Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island, Onishigida in Ikorodu, Oke Koto in Agege, as well as Ladipo channel at Mushin. He said the state government is planning to construct rehabilitate and maintain drains through direct labour programme. While stating that the state government has been able to execute a number of construction works in different areas of the state to control flood, Bello added that there had been no support yet from the Federal Government and all they had been doing had been within the state's resources.
