Assembly Probes Murder Attempt on Fasubaa Ekiti From Dipo Okunmuyide in Ado-Ekiti Ekiti State House of Assembly has set up a committee to investigate the recent assassination attempt on the life of the Chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government, Mr Taye Fasubaa. The Assembly, in its special sitting yesterday reviewed the security situation in the state condemned the dastardly act and descended heavily on the state's police command for the shoddy manner it handled the situation. It also recognised and appreciate the roles played by President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti and his chiefs, the Inspector General of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police for their prompt and timely intervention in the crisis. Part of its resolution at the sitting was that the Assembly remain solidly behind the state Governor Ayo Fayose and have confidence in his ability to handle the matter effectively, and called on the state government to institute a judicial panel of inquiry into the assassination attempt and bring the perpetrators to book. Honourable Omoniyi Ajaja from Ido-Osi Constituency said the people of the state have lost confidence in the state's police command, adding that it is most unfortunate that the police boss refused to respond to the distress call of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, which informed the decision of the IG to order the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Ondo State to take over security in Ekiti State. In his own contribution, Honourable Gbenga Falaye from Ekiti East Constituency I described the incident as a set back for the nascent democracy and alleged that the state's police command deliberately withdrew its men from beats during and after the attack, to pave way for the assassins.
