'Hold Political Leaders Responsible for Bad Economy' Benue From Daniel Ior in Makurdi Annual Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) opened in Makurdi, yesterday, with a declaration by the Bishops that the elected leaders of the country should bear full responsibility for the on going political, economic and social problems facing the nation. The conference blamed President Olusegun Obasanjo for his administrations inability to achieve the desired results in its reform programmes describing it as an emerging trend where "many of our people are becoming increasingly short-sighted and self-centred." Speakers at the Second Plenary Meeting of the conference noted that the existing political crisis, corruption levels and other ills pervading the nation were a reflection of the leadership in the counbtry. The participants said Nigerians are "very easy to lead. What they want they ensure is honesty and transparency, and they will follow." They however noted that at the moment, Nigeria is still in the dark because the leaders are in the dark.
