ANPP Crisis: Southwest Members Want Chairmanship Re-zoned By Sheriff Balogun As leadership crisis continue to plague the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), some members of the party from the South west are already clamouring that the national chairmanship slot of the party be allocated to the zone. THISDAY gathered that some members of the party from the South-west had an extensive meeting in Abuja recently where the issue was discussed and a resolution reached to canvass for the re-zoning of the national chairmanship slot. The meeting, which was held at the residence of the Lagos Central Senatorial flagbearer of the party in the last election, Hon. Abayomi Mumuni, was said to have in attendance chairmen of the party from the South-west zone. The national chairmanship slot of the party, which is currently being occupied by Chief Don Etiebet from the South-south geo-political zone has been a subject of controversy and fierce power-play among the party's stakeholders. Sources at the meeting told THISDAY that those at the meeting arrived at the position after reviewing the emerging political trend in the country and the various permutations ahead of the 2007 general elections. It was gathered that the chairmen observed that since the South-south, which currently occupies the slot is one of the zones canvassing for the nation's presidency in 2007, it is only proper that the party chairmanship position moves away from the zone. Having made the observation, sources said that the meeting also ruled out the possibility of the slot going to the South-east, based on the fact that it is one of the zones eyeing the presidency in 2007, a development which leaves the South-west out as the only zone in the South which would not be clamouring for the presidential ticket of the party because it is currently occupying the position. Sources at the meeting revealed that it was consequently resolved that the position should be zoned to the Southwest to allow the Southsouth and the Southeast vie for the presidential slot along with the North.
