Dabiri Decries SSS Invasion of Insider Weekly Chairman, Media and Public Affairs committee of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abike Dabiri has faulted the clamp down on the Insider Weekly magazine by State Security Service (SSS) describing it as a bad precedent, saying if the Federal Government/Media relationship is to grow, such should not be repeated. Dabiri, in a statement, described the invasion as an attempt to muzzle the press, thereby preventing it from carrying out its constitutional role as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution. Rather than reminding us of the ugly experience of the Nigerian Press during the military era, Dabiri said the Federal Government should have resorted to democratic practice by challenging any erring publication in a court of law. She said the Federal Government ought to have lodged a formal complaint to the Nigerian Press Council (NPC), the organ that is responsible for the regulation of the activities of the media in the country, before carrying out its action. It would be recalled that State Security Service (SSS), a forthnight ago, sealed off the Insider Magazine in a manner reminiscence of the past military junta.
